Beware the Scribes...
By: Keith Dotzler
"Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,"
This will be the third installment in the series entitled "Beware the Scribes..." In the last two articles, in an effort to show the total untrustworthiness of codices Aleph and B, we saw the following:
How Aleph and B omit Aminadab and Aram from Christ's geneology in Luke 3:33, and replace them with two non-existent persons, viz Arni and Admin. This, in spite of the fact that the geneology is found CORRECTLY in Matt 1:3,4 in BOTH codices...where the order of the geneolgy is reversed, to expose false witnesses like Aleph and B immediately!
How Aleph and B omit the last sentence of Mark 6:11, "Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city," supposedly because the scribes of the Traditional Text assimilated that warning from Matt 10:15, when the omission was actually the blunder of the scribe of the "oldest and best," who assimilated the absence of it from Luke 9:5,6!
With that said, we now come to 1 Corinthians 15:51. Many are quite familiar with this verse, and those that follow. The passage tells of the blessed hope of every Christian, in every generation...i.e., the gathering together of Christ's sheep, to meet Him in the air without ever seeing death, whereupon we receive incorruptible bodies that have never tasted sin! This imminent event has been dubbed the "Rapture of the Church." Whether you are pre-trib, post-trib, mid-trib, no-trib - as pertaining to the timing of the Rapture - one thing is certain: there WILL be a generation of Christians who won't die, but will be miraculously taken up to meet the LORD of Glory in the clouds, "and so shall we ever be with the Lord!" To my knowledge, there isn't one single Bible that has followed Aleph in this verse, not even the NWT. Do you know why? Well, I'll tell you-- Aleph has ALL Christians tasting death, and only some of us being changed and resurrected! That's right! All Christians will die, but only SOME of them will be resurrected and get new bodies (sounds like JW theology to me)! Observe the reading of the TR:
1 Corinthians 15:51 idou musthrion umin legw panteV men ou koimhqhsomeqa panteV de allaghsomeqa (TR)
Now compare that to the reading of Aleph:
1 Corinthians 15:51 idou musthrion umin legw panteV men koimhqhsomeqa ou pantes de allaghsomeqa (Aleph)
The blunder is obvious. The scribe of Aleph transposed (rearranged) the words koimhqhsomeqa and ou, thus creating a DOCTRINAL ERROR so obvious, that not even the discoverer of Aleph himself, Constantin Von Tischendorf, would follow suit in his own apparatus! Westcott and Hort also refuse to follow this "valuable" manuscript, and instead, side with Vaticanus, as does NA27/UBS4. Evidently, Lachmann is the only critic of the past to have adopted the reading of Aleph. Bengel, Tregelles, Wordsworth, Griesbach, Alford, Scholz, Tischendorf, Westcott and Hort, Nestle-Aland, et al ALL rejected Aleph at this verse! So here we have a case where the two "oldest and best" disagree with each other, yet both are still worshipped by today's scholars as accurately portraying God's words! How many doctrinal blunders does a manuscript have to have, before it is no longer trusted? Do you look at the words of God as if they were a turkey leg....where you chew off the meat, while hoping you don't choke on a bone? Come on Christian! Enough of this sifting through the trash to find something to eat! What happened to "a little leaven leaveneth the WHOLE LUMP? What happened to Christ's indictment of His accusers, whose testimonies did not agree together? What did he call them? FALSE WITNESSES, right? Discernment in the Body of Christ is the worst it's ever been. As bro Bob mentioned in his "Sad Statistics" post, definitions of words are being changed. The language itself is degenerating. Common sense is gone. People don't see black and white anymore...only shades of gray. "Degrees" of right, with no absolute wrong. How pitiful.
These articles, taken one at a time, may not convince many, who remain willfully ignorant, that Alpeh and B are corrupt....but as this series continues, I will be listing all the blunders discussed in the previous articles(as I did at the beginning of this article), so that a running tally can be readily seen by all, and those two "oldest and best" can be judged accordingly. There comes a time when one must simply concede to the evidence, and admit to being in the wrong. If you are too proud to do so, you will be willfully sinning! Will you play the role of Al Gore, or that of the father of the child who was stricken with a dumb spirit? Remember what the child's father said? "Help thou mine unbelief!" He that hath ears to hear, let him hear...
